When No One Buys Your Program by Jill CelesteWhat do you do when no one buys your program?

It’s heart wrenching, isn’t it?

You pour so much heart and soul into what you offer. You marketed it like crazy. Yet, the whole thing flopped.

Here’s the thing…

Having a poor response to an offer is a normal part of your marketing journey.

It sucks and it’s painful – but like any failure, it teaches you a valuable lesson.

I invite you to keep reading as I share a story about a recent “flop” and what I learned from it.

When an offer flops, ask your community why they didn't buy. Don't assume you know the answer. - Jill Celeste

BLOG:

Recently, I offered an opportunity to work with me through The Celestial Circle. I sent out emails, did Facebook Lives, talked about it on social media, and posted in my Facebook Group.

Guess what? Not one person took me up.

I’ll be honest: I was disappointed. It felt like a punch to the gut.

All sorts of feelings jumbled around my head:

  • I am not good enough.
  • No one likes me.
  • I am a terrible marketing teacher.
  • My community won’t invest in me.
  • How was I going to stay in business if I couldn’t sell a $79/month program?

(Did you notice how I whined and made it all about me? More about that in a second).

I could not understand why no one wanted to invest in The Celestial Circle. Then it hit me like a ton of bricks: Why not ask them?

I created a survey about my promotion and program, and sent it to my community. One of my questions was this: Why didn’t you invest in The Celestial Circle?

I posted the survey link in my Facebook Group, as well as emailed it to my list, and raffled a $20 Amazon gift card to anyone who completed the survey.

The survey worked! I got awesome feedback, and here was my big takeaway:

The reason why these entrepreneurs didn’t invest in The Celestial Circle was not because of me – it was because of them. Here are some of the responses:

  • Already working with a mentor
  • Having some personal issues and couldn’t spare the time
  • Could not afford the monthly membership fee
  • Knee-deep in a big project that was taking up a lot of time

No one thought my offer was terrible, or that I was terrible (in fact, the respondents were very complimentary of me, which made me feel great!).

In other words, the offer’s flop was not reflective of me, my knowledge, or my likability. In essence, it was bad timing for my community.

Here’s what I want you to take away from my story.

When no one buys your program, ask your community why. Don’t assume you know the answers!

Send out a survey or get on the phone with some potential clients. The information you’ll gather will not only help you create a better promotion for the future, it will save your mindset.

And if you think it your flop is a sign from The Universe to quit your business – remember this: It’s a sign to stay in faith. That’s all. You got this. I am rooting for you.

ABOUT JILL

Hi, I’m Jill Celeste. I teach purpose-driven entrepreneurs (just like you) everything you need to know about marketing so you can become the Director of Marketing for your business.

Because when you put your Director of Marketing hat squarely on your head, marketing is your number one priority (which will result in more clients!).

When I am not teaching about marketing, you’ll find me hanging out with my husband or my sons, loving up my two cats, or feeding the backyard ducks (much to my neighbor’s chagrin). I am an avid reader of literary fiction and personal development books. And I like to talk to my sweet basset hound, Emma, who left this earthly plane on October 17, 2019.
